Want to get pulled over for "DWB" or "DWM", then take a drive through Claremont!
I've lived in many cities throughout LA and Orange Counties. I like to say that Claremont is the Nicest Affordable City in LA County.
Claremont is quiet and overall has better educated residents than most LA County communities. The local politics are a mess, however. I have felt very safe living here for many years. The schools are great, but some of the kids from economically comfortable homes tend to be haughty and spoiled. I would wish that neighbors were more involved with each other.
Claremont is nice, though somewhat elderly. For some reason it has a reputation as a relatively liberal town. It's not. It's a college town that just doesn't seem to want to have too much to do with college students.
It's a charming college town and a great place to live. The village is fun, the people diverse, and the streets are lined wih more trees and any other town in LA county.
This place is a diamond in the rough; a progressive, tree-lined enclave. It feels more like Westwood than the IE.
I am a graduate of Scripps College -- one of the Claremont Colleges, and I remember the Mission Revival-style architecture (and general Arts & Crafts Style) of the town and colleges with fondness. I also remember feeling safe walking around the town and campuses at all hours.
