Lawndale

Tell us what Lawndale means to you

  • What makes this a good place to live? What are the downsides?

Best word to describe Lawndale: UNDERACHIEVING. I worked there for a few years and now live there as well. Some parts are ok, some parts are bad. But that's the same for any city. Main problem: rental units and the people that live in them. Often times, there are 2-3 families living out of one house. That's why you see 5 or 6 big SUVs or pickup trucks per household with absolutely no street parking. Also, the majority of the people are of Latin decent. Not saying that it's bad, but they live dirty. Their yards are always littered with beer bottles, and their homes feature ZERO curb appeal. On top of that, all their vehicles are poorly maintained and seem to be broken down or beat-up ALL THE TIME, leaking oil, radiator fluid and smoke everywhere. It's up the the Lawndale City Council to clean things up. It's a shame, especially when you consider it's only a few blocks from Redondo Beach.

Been a resident for 3 years now- pockets of good with many pockets of bad- police helicopters every other night, tells the story...will move back to Torrance sooner than later...not enough Police presence- needs thier own Police Department and not Sherriff's...City Officials not prioritizing well with residents needs.

We need a strong city counsel willing to aggressively deal with issues in this city.

Grew up here and I use to walk everywhere.

In the summer we walked to the beach.

As teens we could cruse the area around the piers but the houses were 100,000 on the strand back then they got the cops to clear out the people and the houses sell for millions now.

All of south bay went to crap after that around 1979.

It use to be a good place for a poor white family to live.

I moved to phoenix and never looked back. Miss the ocean though.

Miss never seeing anyone I grew up with.

lawndale is a great town ..the only thing it needs is a very strong neiborhood watch ..thats all the people who make this area seems bad arent locals and if they are they obviously will stand out ..no job you will see them threw out the day not goin anywhere not really doing anything ..easy way show a presence of athority is house lights on all night presence of police

Lived here over 20 years. Good then, scary now. Not a whole lot of intelligence on City Council...lots of wasted tax dollars on projects that will never be completed or are useless.
