  • What makes this a good place to live? What are the downsides?

Have to agree with Alex - one of the best places to live in LA. Compared to Santa Monica, it is more affordable. The apartments also tend to be newer with nicer amenities. Good restaurants, safe, friendly people. Traffic can get bad, but that's the nature of the Westside. LOVE the proximity to LAX and the beach.

One of the best places in Los Angeles. Marina del Rey combines laid back beach appeal with a slice of high rise urbanism and car-friendly suburban living. "MDR" for short is conveniently located to LAX, has a host of entertainment options like dining, boating, and parks. However the faults of MDR would include traffic congestion and it is noticeably colder here than anywhere else in LA. Much of the action of MDR also actually takes place in Venice along the border of the two neighborhoods.
