While the part of Sun Valley you have lumped in with Shadow Hills on your map is, in fact, quite different from the rest of Sun Valley and more similar to Shadow Hills, it is still Sun Valley rather than Shadow Hills.
Factually you are wrong. Please check your facts and consult citations. The Post Office assigns Zip Codes for their ease and cost efficiency. It is for the purpose of postal delivery alone. The Post Office efficiency efforts are not to be construed as government entities. They would never place a post office in Shadow Hills. That is not cost effective.
All city boundries, governments and geographoic names designations are left at the local and state level. Shadow Hills is a geographic zone of the City of Los Angeles as is Sunland. I refer you to the links below belonging to the City of Los Angeles. Shadow Hills is larger in size than Sunland but far less populated. Hence the placement of the local Post Office. Postal Zoning is irrelevant to local Government boundries.
Let me state a factual example. The Harbor City area of the City of Los Angeles uses the Torrance Zip Code 90502. Yet they are in the City of Los Angeles.

I grew up in Shadow Hills, had family there from 1970 to 2003, and loved it. We had ponies and horses and dogs, cats, rabbits and chickens. You could always hear roosters, horses and peacocks. It was a wonderful place to grow up back then. I believe that SH is bordered by the 210 Freeway to the east (it is below Sunland), Wentworth to the north, Wheatland to the south (along the ridge) and Stonehurst to the west. Which is to say that it excludes both La Tuna Cyn, (which IS in Sun Valley) and Sunland (much more densely populated).
Shadow HIlls and La Tuna Canyon are the best hidden treasures of Los Angeles. Large lots, zoned for horse keeping. Many people who live here not only own horses but ride them regularly in the hills in the parks, and on the miles of trails that crisscross the entire area. The neighborhood is horse, dog and people friendly with open and forested parkland, streams and wildlife. We are minutes from anywhere in the city including Burbank airport, with all the cities conveniences and short commutes. The area also has diverse architecture from different eras including many historic river stone buildings and original adobe homes. It's a wonderful place to live and a terrific sports/ recreational area. It's also known as home to many antique car collectors. Other LA residents who don't live in Shadow Hills keep their horses in one of the many stables or house their car collections here. We who love it here hope we can keep it this way, an oasis from the city in the city.
I would rather be lumped in with la tuna canyon than sundland tujunga....22 year shadow hills resident.
I do not think it is correct that the La Tuna Canyon area has been included with the Shadow Hills area. What is that based on?
La Tuna Canyon is really part of Sun Valley.
Factually Shadow Hills is part of Sunland! They have the same 91040 zip code.
