MAPPING L.A. > San Gabriel Valley

Tell us what Whittier means to you

  • What makes this a good place to live? What are the downsides?

Great vibe town! Enjoy "Uptown Whittier" the parks, bars, and the unique antique stores the city has to offer. People are sure friendly and love all of the historical homes still there as I happen to own one myself . Driving into Whittier can become time consuming thanks to no freeways that run thru the city. The city also needs a better relaible transit system? Can I suggest the Gold Line extension!!

Love Whittier, but it is not in sgv, I would throw it in with the south east, beacause it is considered to be 562 area code and south of hacienda heights

Shouldn't Whittier be considered the South East instead of the San Gabriel Valley? It is on the south side of the hill.

Hate to break it to you folks, but Whittier is not in the SGV. The SGV consists of 31 cities, non of which is Whittier. The SGV ends along the Hacienda Heights, Rowland Hights city lines. Whittier is on the other side of the hill and is a great place to live. I'm not surprised however that the LA Times would write that Whittier is in the SGV because the Times does not really care about any area except the downtown, SFV, and the westside.

Lived in several different parts of the San Gabriel Valley but loved living in Whittier. Loved that it was centrally located between L.A. and Orange County.

Great city! I've lived in about 4 areas of Whittier and have friends throughout. Great schools, people, shops and parks. Can step it up in professional business, however. Maybe can use some big crowd entertainment (festivals, celebrations for 20-30's age group). Upgrade on some homes in some areas. More community spirit, in addition to existing Whittier lovers.

I plan to buy my first home here.
