L.A.'s Eastside: Where do you draw the line?

“ East of the LA river, west of the 710, just south of Eagle Rock, with some areas that lie west of the river and south of the 10/60 split (like HP.) This is coming from my own experience living on the Eastside for 6+ years, as well as from hispanic neighbors and friends born and raised in LA... these neighborhoods, unlike Silverlake, "feel" East LA: it's the culture due to multiple generations of family, the food, the look and vibe of the neighborhood, the sense of community, the notion of working with what you have, and always helping each other out and looking out for one another. There might be the minimum friendliness in other spaces around town, sure, but few neighborhoods in LA do built-in camaraderie and bartering economy quite as well as the Eastside does. ” — Veronica Flores from Cypress Park, Feb. 18, 2014, 3:10 p.m.
