L.A.'s Eastside: Where do you draw the line?

“ East Los Angeles is definately at the heart of east LA; but the character of that neighborhood seems to continue west of that and north, which is close-quarters, single-family housing (slightly run down). South Pasadena seems more upkept then that region. Highland park seems to be the northern extent of that character.
