L.A.'s Eastside: Where do you draw the line?

“ Including Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Echo Park and Atwater Village within the Eastside is historically consistent in the sense that those communities made up the East Hollywood addition to the city in 1910. Glendale is the eastern boundary extending down to Forest Lawn while Western Ave is the natural western boundary, since East Hollywood begins there. For the southern boundary, I've chosen the 101 freeway, since that has been a physical barrier along its southeastern route since it was built in the early 1950's. The 101, the 2 and the 5 freeways disrupted and isolated many Eastside communities. I include York Blvd as a northern boundary up to the Arroyo Seco on the east, down to Mission Road, as it meets Downtown, and the communities north of Chinatown, making up the southern boundaries. ” — Patrick Cleary from Atwater Village, Feb. 19, 2014, 2:25 p.m.
