L.A.'s Eastside: Where do you draw the line?

“ East of the LA river is the Eastside.. If you just moved to silverlake and think you live on the eastside because you no longer live on the obvious westside or you are a transplant from the East coast or someone just told you this and you accepted it... you are wrong. The vibe you are picking up on is of the "East siders" that used to live there before you priced them out, we have all left now. when i moved to silverlake from HLP in 1995 it was an attempt to be closer to the events i was doing in hollywood and the surrounding LA area the rent was cheap and no one cared about this tiny section of town, just gay folks and gang bangers and to me it was an attempt to start something new escape the NE, at that time there were many doing the same. The Truth: "Silverlake = East Hollywood" That is what it was referred to when i lived and ran a business "UponShop Records" in the Sunset junction. Silverlake was content with being silverlake because it was cool, it didn't have a side to claim. ” — Azul 213 from Boyle Heights , Feb. 20, 2014, 9:50 a.m.
