L.A.'s Eastside: Where do you draw the line?

“ When I think of the Eastside, I think of El Sereno, East LA, Boyle Heights and Lincoln Heights as the area that constitutes the region. The Eastside is not a recently hipster created area abut sprouts within the large Latino community which has lived in the region for many years and have molded the area to live, work and celebrate within the area whether it be from the mom and pops, the places of worship or even the large murals where Latinos are represented. The hipsters may say that Los Feliz and Silver Lake are part of the Eastside but the matter of the fact is that the actual Eastside is within those four neighborhoods and will not be open to gentrification and appropriation by out-of-town yuppies for the sake of their narrow-minded mindset and generic boutiques. ” — Connie Guzman from Glendale , Feb. 18, 2014, 9:58 a.m.
