I'm an L.A native (Miracle Mile) but I spent many years on the "westside" attending Santa Monica High School. And then working in Santa Monica while attending 4 years of college in Downtown Los Angeles. While commuting back and forth for 8 years, through the distinct enclaves of each city (by way of freeway and/or surface streets depending on what time of day it was and flow of traffic), I too have drawn my own borders around what I consider "the westside" and "not the westside." I consider Santa Monica and Venice officially the westside. The borders are: As far south as Washington Blvd, and as far north as Entrada off of PCH. As far east as Centinela and as far west as the crystal...erg...greenish brown waters of the Pacific. As for Marina Del Rey, Culver City, Malibu and the Palisades...sorry guys. To me, those areas have distinct characteristics, setting them apart from the westside territory. So, next time you drive west on Wilshire, take note of the giant metal wave that hovers over the street like a rainbow, just after you cross Centinela. I know when I do I think, "Hello Westside!"
