Version One

In February 2009, hoping to stimulate a public conversation about the places Angelenos call home, we published this interactive map of 87 areas within Los Angeles. Readers posted more than 1,500 comments telling us what they liked and didn’t like about our boundaries and the names we chose. We also gave readers a tool to draw the border as they saw them.

After reviewing this collective knowledge, Times staffers adjusted more than 100 boundaries, eliminated some names and added others. You can visit our current map, the portal to individual pages providing demographic profiles, school links and local news.

We will maintain this site as an archive of our original maps and the comments and maps of our readers.
